Air Fryer Churro Bites (Naturally Vegan)

Ingredients
  

For the Churro Pastry

  • 150 ml Water (½ cup + 2 tbsp)
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon White Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Canola Oil
  • 60 grams All Purpose Flour (½ cup)

For the Cinnamon Sugar

  • 100 grams White Sugar (½ cup)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Instructions
 

Prep

  • Gather all your ingredients and equipment before starting the process.

To Make the Churro Bites

  • Add 150 ml (½ cup plus 2 tbsp) water, ¼ teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 tablespoon oil to a saucepan. Bring to the boil and stir to dissolve.
  • Remove from heat and stir in 60 grams (½ cup) of All Purpose Flour. Keep stirring until fully incorporated.
  • Allow cooling for 10 minutes.
  • Add a closed star piping tip to a thick piping bag and place churro dough in it. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • Pipe 2 inch churro bites onto the paper and trim the dough with scissors.

Frying the Churro Bites

  • Set your air fryer to 360F and preheat for 2 minutes.
  • Add half of the churro bites to the tray and spray with cooking oil, ensuring space between bites.
  • Fry for 10 minutes, turning at the 5 minute mark for even cooking.

To Make the Cinnamon Sugar

  • In a bowl, mix together 100 grams (½ cup) of white sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
  • Toss the churro bites in cinnamon sugar once cooked and set aside.
  • Repeat frying for the remaining bites.
  • Serve warm with a caramel sauce.

Notes

This recipe makes approximately 18-20 churro bites. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 1-2 days, do not refrigerate. For larger churros, pipe longer shapes (4 inches).
